As promised, a KATO update: new pre-orders from Japan and the USA, a quick reminder that we’ll be at TINGS in September, and a fresh batch of recent arrivals now on the website. It's a bit long, make sure you read right to the bottom!
The headline Japanese release is the return of C57 1, one of KATO’s best-known Japanese steam locomotives, along with the matching 35 Series 4000 “SL Yamaguchi” 5-car coach set. It’s a very attractive pairing, and likely to be the main Japanese highlight from this month’s announcements.
Also included from Japan are the EF65 1000 Shimonoseki Depot, DD51 1043 Shimonoseki Depot, the Keio 5000 / 5100 series sets, useful new Unitrack pieces, and HO yukata passenger figures.
The USA announcement is built around the California Zephyr - one of the great American passenger trains. The range includes the CB&Q E8A California Zephyr 4-unit starter set, the 8-car California Zephyr add-on set, plus CB&Q, D&RGW and Western Pacific locomotive options. Standard and sound versions are listed; plain DCC versions are available only by request before the end of September.
There is also a seasonal KATO USA item: the Pocket Line Christmas Train Starter Set, including train, track and controller. A neat little Christmas layout in a box, which is the sort of thing we pretend is for the children and then keep for ourselves.
As usual, pre-orders are open with no payment needed up front. We do ask that pre-orders are treated as genuine reservations, as they help us plan what to bring in - especially with the more specialist KATO USA items where demand can be harder to judge.

TrainTrax will be at The International N Gauge Show at the Warwickshire Event Centre on 12 and 13 September.
You’ll find us on stands 27 and 28. Online orders will also be available for collection at the show - please select the collection option at checkout.
