Prototype information
The ABe 8/12 "Allegra" is a three-car multiple unit used by the Rhaetian Railway (RhB). The prototype is a dual-voltage unit, able to work on the RhB core network at 11 kV AC and on the Bernina line at 1000 V DC. Although compact, the Allegra units are powerful enough to haul passenger coaches, including Glacier Express stock.
This Kato model represents unit 3506, "Anna von Planta".
Model features
- N gauge model of the metre-gauge RhB ABe 8/12 Allegra.
- Designed for Kato Unitrack Compact, including R150 curves.
- Reproduces the multiple pantographs and dual-voltage equipment of the prototype.
- Printed front emblem, side lettering and unit name.
- Front destination display: "IR Chur".
- Working headlights and tail lights.
- Dummy coupler fitted at the front, with Glacier Express short couplers used between the cars.
- Includes replacement short couplers for coupling to Glacier Express passenger coaches.

The 3 car Allegra is a brilliant model, Some users have said that its detailing surpasses that of similar Allegras available in other scales (I cannot confirm this personally!) The units run very smoothly and are capable of hauling additional coaches or freight cars as the full size Allegras do ( check out RhB Livestream webcams) Kato close couplers are provided in the pack and these are easily changed with the dummy couplings fitted,
Directional lights are fitted, as per some Swiss rules 2 on front (leading car) and 1 on the trailing car (although not sure if this rule still apllies currently)

I have eagerly awaited the latest production run of this model and it does not disappoint. A beautifully detailed model which comes with the usual smooth running of Kato products, and at an extremely competitive pricing. It was also another perfect transaction with the highly recommended Train Trax, and the 'Pre-Order' facility that is available is a first rate option.

Very nice model with a lot of detail, and promptly supplied by Train Trax. My one disappointment is that I will have to almost totally dismantle the motor unit to modify it if I want it to run on my DCC setup.
