- "Super Yakumo" appeared in 1994 as an express train of the Hakubi Line's limited express "Yakumo". Unlike the 381 series of "Yakumo", it was upgraded with a panoramic front car for green cars and wider seat pitch for ordinary cars. The body is a light purple base with three stripes, and the front and sides of each leading car are designed with the letters "SUPER YAKUMO 381" and "WEST JAPAN RAILWAY COMPANY SUPER YAKUMO" in red. In addition to adding and removing cars depending on the busy and slow seasons, it was used in various ways, such as being mixed with the green "Yakumo" and being operated as a regular "Yakumo".
-Of the 381 series "Yuttari Yakumo" trains that were in regular service until June 15, 2024, one train was repainted in the "Super Yakumo" livery and revived between February 17, 2023 and April 5, 2024, attracting attention.
-In addition to the purple-colored trains, you can also enjoy mixed and passing trains with the green-banded 381 series "Yakumo" (renewed trains) that were in service at the same time.
Main Features
②The purple-based body color accurately reproduces the notation of "SUPER YAKUMO 381" and "WEST JAPAN RAILWAY COMPANY SUPER YAKUMO".
③This 4-car set reproduces a formation with KuMoHa 381 at the front and Salo 381 after the 3-row seat renovation.
④The whistle on the roof is in the form after it was removed, the pantograph has a snow-resistant cover, and the shoe reproduces the appearance of a single horn.
⑤The intermediate coupling part uses a body-mounted close-coupling type coupler (without hook). Both at the front are dummy couplers. Couplers + skirts for coupling KuHa 381 and KuMoHa 381 are included.
⑥The Kuro 380 reproduces the characteristic body shape including the large window at the front and the interior of the 4-row seats. The nickname display between the headlights also lights up
⑦ A slotless motor is used to achieve smooth and quiet running
⑧ Just like the real thing, it is equipped with KATO's unique car body pendulum mechanism that reproduces the car body tilting inward when passing through curves
⑨ Headlights and taillights light up (uses white LEDs). KuHa 381 and KuMoHa 381 have a switch to turn them off
⑩ The nickname display uses a convertible train mark. "Yakumo", "Super Yakumo", and "Commuter Liner" are included for KuHa 381 (wide) and KuMoHa 381 (narrow). The front display of Kuro 380 has "Super Yakumo" already installed. "Yakumo" and "plain black" are included as replacements
