Description
The 12-series passenger cars were manufactured between 1969 and 1978 and are express-style seating passenger cars capable of a maximum speed of 110km/h. They are equipped with air conditioning powered by a diesel generator under the floor, which is comparable to the electric trains and diesel railcars of the time, and became the basis for the new passenger cars that appeared later, the 14-series and later. Initially, they were operated as special trains and for transporting passengers to the Osaka Expo, and later as regular express trains, and were seen in action all over the country except Hokkaido. In later years, they were converted into commuter trains and joy trains, and have been used in various ways, and can still be seen in action today as passenger cars for temporary use.
