The E500 is Taiwan's first Japanese-made electric locomotive. A total of 88 cars were ordered to replace the aging E1000 electric cars that pull Taiwan Railway Corporation's "PP Tzi-Chiang" trains, as well as the existing electric locomotives that pull passenger and freight cars. This next-generation locomotive debuted with a large order of 88 cars. The train features a modular design with a linear aesthetic and numerous jumper plugs on the front for coupling with various passenger and freight cars.
The "Tzi-Chiang" is the name given to Taiwan Railway's all-reserved-seat express trains. The "PP Tzi-Chiang" train, introduced in 1996 with the centralized power system of the E1000, is a train consisting of a South African-made locomotive (motor car) sandwiched between South Korean and Taiwanese-made passenger cars (trailers). The "PP" in the name refers to the push-pull (PP) operation. The train typically operates with 12 passenger cars, but it also includes updated passenger cars to meet demand, such as a "parent-child car" that has been converted from a half-room dining car to include free space for parents with children and pregnant women, and a car with a car sales preparation room converted into a nursing room. Locomotives are being replaced with the successor E500 series, and operations using E500 series and passenger-loading passenger cars have begun throughout Taiwan.
This product features the "PP Tze-Chiang" train, which consists of the latest E500 electric locomotive and conventional passenger-loading passenger cars. Enjoy push-pull operation with electric locomotives attached to both ends of the train in N gauge. It complements the popular Taiwan Railway EMU3000 series products, currently on sale.
