Of the vehicles operated on the "Thunderbird" that connects Osaka to Kanazawa and Wakura Onsen, the 683 series 4000 series is a 9-car fixed train group manufactured between 2009 and 2011. Unlike the 681 series and 683 series 0 series, both leading cars are characterized by the appearance equipped with a frontal head with a front through door (black 683 is preparatory work) and a single arm pantograph. In addition, an offset collision countermeasure structure is adopted to improve safety.
The 683 series 2000 series is active in the 12-car train, which is combined with the 9-car train such as the 4000 series during the high-customer season. With the opening of Kanazawa on the Hokuriku Shinkansen, refreshment work was carried out, and since 2015, the current interior and painting have been renewed in sequence.
By adopting a newly developed slotless motor, it demonstrates smoother and quieter running performance than existing motors.
This is a 5 Car Add On Set, to be used with 10-1745 *JR Series 683-4000 Thunderbird 4 Car Powered Set. The car book case of Add-on Set(5-Cars) can hold the cars of Basic Set (4-Cars).

The 287 series is a limited express DC electric train developed by JR West based on the 683 series-4000 series, and is currently active on the "Kounotori" and "Kuroshio" trains. To commemorate the 60th anniversary of the "Kuroshio" limited express service in 2025, a 60th anniversary wrapping set began operating in July of the same year. The first set featured a design inspired by the 381 series "Super Kuroshio," which had been in operation since 1989. A second set, featuring a wave-inspired design from the front to the sides, began operating in August of the same year. The first set is scheduled to run until February 2026, and the second set is scheduled to run until November 2028. Following the first set, this second set of wrapping sets, released to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the "Kuroshio" limited express service, is now available. The front decoration, inspired by the wave design around the headlights that runs from the front to the sides of the leading cars at both ends of the train, has been faithfully reproduced. Enjoy it alongside the 10-2175 287 Series "Kuroshio" 60th Anniversary Wrapping, scheduled for release in December 2025, and the currently popular 10-1179S/1180 287 Series "Kuroshio."
The 681 series was JR West's first limited express train, with its prototype debut in 1992 as a successor to the 485 series, which served on limited express trains connecting the Kansai, Tokai, and Hokuriku regions. While the prototype consisted of nine through-car formations, the production version was split into six-car and three-car formations, allowing for separation and coupling. Changes in direction and formation have been made over time and with the trains involved. The current remaining trains, used for adding to the "Thunderbird" service, have undergone modifications and refreshes, including the removal of the conductor's compartment and the widening of some doors for barrier-free access. They feature the same livery as the refurbished 683 series.
Introducing a new addition to the KATO "Thunderbird" limited express line. This is the refurbished 681 series, still in use as an add-on train. It's recommended as a coupling partner for the currently popular 683 series "Thunderbird" trains. Together with the 10-2142/2143 683 series 4000 series "Thunderbird" (renewed car) scheduled for release at the same time, you can enjoy a 12-car formation just like the real thing.
The 321 series is a DC commuter train that began operation in December 2005. It operates on the JR Kyoto Line, JR Kobe Line (Tokaido/Sanyo Main Line), and JR Takarazuka Line (Fukuchiyama Line). With the opening of the JR Tozai Line in 2008, it also operates on the Tozai Line and the Gakkentoshi Line (Katamachi Line), and also operates directly via the Osaka Higashi Line to the Yamatoji Line (Kansai Main Line), making it a popular choice for a wide range of Kansai trains.
This model features a different car number than previous models and is equipped with a Toshiba WAU708 cooler. You can enjoy it alongside various vehicles that run in the Kansai region, such as the 10-2145 683 Series 6000 "Mahoroba" (Peace) scheduled for release in October 2025, and the 10-1898/1899 223 Series 2000 "Special Rapid Service" scheduled for re-production in November of the same year.
