Digitrax DCC installed

Prototype
Information:

As a prototype, the SD40-2 was the most popular second-generation diesel
with sales of over 3000 in the U.S. and more than 700 in Canada. There were
many variations of this popular diesel because of the long production run, with
Early units representing a pre-1990 appearance and Mid Production units
depicting later runs of locomotives.

Model Information:

Mid Production EMD SD40-2 locomotives mirror a post-1990 locomotive,
with deck mounted ditch lights so the modeler can use them with their modern
freight rolling stock and in combination with other modern locos. Mid
Production road names come with prototype accurate detailing with regards to
horn and air conditioner placement as well, with Santa Fe (and ex-santa fe,
respectively) units having their airhorns mounted towards the rear and
additional antenna and air conditioning units over the cab.

Model Features:

  • Equipped with body mounted
    KATO magnetic knuckle couplers.
  • Locomotives feature
    directional Golden White LED headlights.
  • Mid Production: Lighted ditch lights
    and illuminated preprinted numberboards.
  • Mid Production: Shock absorber
    construction for reliable performance.
  • Mid Production: DCC Digitrax chip
    factory installed

(N)EMD SD70MAC BNSF #9799 (DCC Sound Fitted)

Prototype Information:

The General Motors Locomotive Group (GMLG) Electro-Motive Division (EMD) SD70MAC is one of the most common locomotives plying the rails today. Originally introduced in late 1993 with an order for the Burlington Northern, the production now totals over 900 units, exceeding the combined production of the SD80MAC and SD90MAC locomotives by over 300 units.

At this time, the SD70MAC, in all of its versions, has been operated by six different railroads in a total of eight different paint schemes. The railroads that operate this locomotive span from East to West and from Mexico to Alaska!

Model Information:

These models will be equipped with all-wheel electrical pick-up and blackened metal wheels in trucks that replicate the HTCR Phase II trucks. (On the prototype, this truck evolved from the HT-C trucks found on the SD40-2 through SD60 and features radial steering capability). Additionally, the models will feature walkway-mounted, lighted ditch lights! Handrails will be made of a paintable material so modelers can easily add white end railings.

Model Features:

  • Powerful five-pole KATO motor with dual brass flywheels
  • Directional Headlight and illuminated, preprinted numberboards
  • Kato magnetic knuckle coupler
  • DCC Friendly mechanism ready for drop-in decoder installation

#1616 Abraham Lincoln:

Union Pacific honors President Abraham Lincoln’s legacy connecting the nation and unleashing economic innovation with a specially painted commemorative locomotive, No. 1616 – a symbolic tribute to the nation’s 16th president. Lincoln’s signing of the Pacific Railway Act of 1862 created Union Pacific and authorized the construction of the transcontinental railroad, connecting the country during a pivotal time and laying the foundation for America’s freight rail supply chain.

Prototype Information:

Introduced in 1992, EMD SD70M was a 4000 horsepower locomotive that ran on EMD’s new steerable truck design, known as the HTCR-II radial truck. This new truck allowed the locomotive to transfer its power to the rails more efficiently, which in turn enabled two SD70M locomotives to pull a train that would have taken 3 SD40-2’s to pull. The DC brother of the SD70MAC, the SD70M was primarily put to work hauling coal trains due to its high pulling capacity.

Model Information:
