Description
The EF81 was introduced in 1968 as a dual-purpose AC/DC locomotive capable of operating on the Japan Sea Trunk Line, which has three electrified sections. Capable of pulling both passenger and freight, some locomotives remain in service even today, in the Reiwa era. In 1999, three locomotives, Nos. 79, 89, and 92, were repainted in the Cassiopeia color scheme to coincide with the launch of the sleeper express "Cassiopeia." The same livery was later applied to No. 99. The locomotives were used not only for the Cassiopeia but also for the Hokutosei, Elm, and Yumekukan trains, and continued to serve until the introduction of their successor, the EF510, in June 2010.
Introducing a new addition to Kato's (HO) EF81 series. This new model features a white base with yellow, orange, and blue accents. It is recommended as a locomotive for the currently popular (HO) 24 Series Sleeper Express "Hokutosei" passenger car products and the 3-522 (HO) 24 Series <Yumekukan>.
