Description
The 455 series, which played an active role in the express trains "Matsushima" and "Bandai" that connected Ueno and various parts of Tohoku in the past, was a vehicle that appeared in 1965 as an enhanced output type of the 451 series. It was mainly used on the Tohoku and Ou Main Lines as a 50Hz dedicated AC/DC express train for gradient line sections with brakes.
A 13-car train consisting of 7+6 cars including Sahashi 455 equipped with a half-room buffet, divided and merged on the way, 7 cars are "Matsushima" and "Iwate" on the Tohoku Main Line, and 6 cars are "Ban'etsu West Line". It was seen to be operated as "Dai" and Ou Main Line "Zao".
