Description
The 50 Series 51 type was introduced in 1979 as a Hokkaido version of the 50 Series general passenger coach. Compared with Honshu stock, it had cold-region features such as small double-glazed side windows and bogie-mounted axle generators.
This KATO set represents later JR Hokkaido-era 50 Series 51 coaches based at Iwamizawa in the early 1990s, with JR markings on the Ohafu 51. It is a good partner for Hokkaido diesel and electric locomotives such as the ED76 500 and cold-region DD51 types.
