Description
The Taiwan Shinkansen is Taiwan's first Shinkansen, which was opened in 2007 by the Taiwan High Speed Railway (commonly known as Taiwan High Speed Rail) between Taipei and Zuorong (Kaohsiung) for 345km.
Although the tracks and equipment are in the hands of the European Union, the vehicles are based on the 700 series Shinkansen that is used on the Tokaido and Sanyo Shinkansen, and are the first Japanese Shinkansen to go overseas.
The nose is shorter than the 700 series Shinkansen, and the orange band that extends from the tip of the car body is a major feature. The 700T, developed to suit Taiwan's climate, has a maximum speed of 300 km/h and is used to connect Nangang (Taipei) and Zuorong (Kaohsiung).
