Description
The EF81 was introduced in 1968 as a dual-purpose AC/DC electric locomotive for routes with different electrification systems, including the Japan Sea route. It was used on both passenger and freight trains, and some members of the class remained active well into the Reiwa era.
In 1999, EF81 Nos. 79, 89 and 92 were repainted into the Cassiopeia colour scheme for the launch of the Cassiopeia sleeper express. No. 99 later received the same livery. These locomotives also worked Hokutosei, Elm and Yumekukan services before EF510 locomotives took over in June 2010.
This HO model is based on No. 92 in its mid-1990s to 2011 condition, with black H-rubber window frames. It is a suitable locomotive for HO Cassiopeia, Hokutosei, Elm and Yumekukan scenes.
