Important

This item uses Train Trax's website pre-order function.  For simplicity of processing, each product will need to be placed on a separate pre-order as they will probably arrive at different times. If more than one pre-order does arrive at a similar time then it will be possible to combine shipping charges.

KATO KiHa 58 Series Panoramic Window Cars

The later KiHa 58 family vehicles built from 1967 onwards are distinguished by panoramic front windows wrapping around towards the sides, plus front skirts. The KiRo 28 final production group built in 1968 also differed significantly from earlier KiRo 28 cars, with a KiHa 65-style body cross-section and altered rain gutter position.

These individual cars let you build short formations from two cars upwards, or expand existing KiHa 58 formations to recreate favourite JNR and early JR diesel express trains.

Key features and details

• Represents the 8th batch vehicles built in 1967-1968.
• KiHa 58 and KiHa 28 represent Fukuchiyama depot cars in JNR-era condition after 1983; KiRo 28 represents a Yonago depot car around 1978.
• Later model-change group appearance reproduced.
• KiHa 58 / KiHa 28 feature panoramic front windows, skirts and snowploughs around the front couplers; slit-style typhons.
• KiHa 58 / KiHa 28 side detail includes no driver's side inspection hatch, forced ventilation openings and long horizontal toilet windows.
• Roof detail has no ventilators over the passenger saloon and ventilators over the deck area.
• KiHa 58 roof water tank and KiHa 28 underfloor water tank reproduce rounded FRP forms.
• KiHa 28 has the air-conditioning generator intake between side windows towards the rear and side water filler positioned nearer the centre.
• KiRo 28 has printed green car side band, KiHa 65-style body cross-section, different rain gutter position and toilet/washroom layout outside the deck.
• Seat colours differentiate ordinary cars in dark blue and the KiRo 28 in maroon.
• Air conditioners are AU13E on cars other than KiRo 28; KiRo 28 uses square AU13 coolers.
• Slotless motor for smooth, quiet running on the motorised KiHa 58.
• Body-mounted close automatic couplers on all cars, with air hose-style coupler receiver parts included.
• All cars except KiRo 28 have working head/tail lights and front display, with warm white LEDs and light-off switch.
• Front display printed as Express, with blank replacement display and stickers for side boards and destinations included.
