Description
EF58 appeared in 1946 as a locomotive to meet the demand for passenger transport after the end of the war. Initially, it had a box-shaped body, but it was later replaced with a streamlined body, and 172 cars were manufactured by 1958. During Japan National Railways' heyday, it was responsible for passenger transportation on major lines such as the Tokaido, Sanyo, Takasaki, Joetsu, and Tohoku Main Lines, and in addition to towing old passenger cars such as the 20 Series Blue Train, 12 Series, and 14 Series, it also saw activity as a freight train. It was done. Maintenance was carried out at a maintenance base for each active line, and in areas with heavy snowfall, the front was equipped with an icicle cut and snow plow, and an electric heating indicator was installed on the side of the car body.
