Description
The DD51 class was introduced in 1962 as the main diesel locomotive for non-electrified main lines. At its peak, 649 locomotives existed, with variations for cold and warm regions and for both passenger and freight use.
The Hokkaido DD51s used on passenger services gained a strong association with the Hokutosei sleeper express after the opening of the Seikan Tunnel in 1988. From the summer of that year, the locomotives received the blue No. 20 livery with gold bands and Hokutosei logos on the cab sides.
This HO model represents a Hakodate Transport Office locomotive used to haul Hokutosei and other sleeper trains. It is a natural match for HO Hokutosei stock, including the OHa 25 500 Lobby Car and 24 Series Hokutosei coach sets.
The motor specification differs from previous versions of this product.
