Description
The EF66-0 was one of Japan's most powerful DC electric locomotive classes and became strongly associated with long-distance Blue Train sleeper services. This late-period Blue Train version represents the locomotive as seen in the first half of the 2000s.
The model is designed for serious long-consist operation. KATO notes that it has the haulage capacity to pull a 15-car passenger train with interior lighting fitted, including on routes with a 4 percent gradient. It is therefore a good match for full Blue Train formations as well as more compact sleeper-train layouts.
Recommended companion stock includes the Series 24 Sleeper Express Sakura / Hayabusa / Fuji 9-Car Set and Series 14 Sleeper Express Sakura / Hayabusa / Fuji 6-Car Set.
