The Ogaki Night Express was established in 1968, when overnight local trains were significantly restructured following the increase in Shinkansen service. The famous passenger train that ran between Tokyo and Osaka was shortened to operate between Tokyo and Ogaki, and was subsequently converted to an electric train. Initially, it was operated by the Ogaki Electric Railway Depot's 153 series, but after a period of mixed use of 155 and 159 series trains, it was standardized to the 165 series in 1982. Despite being a local train, its overnight nature made it a valuable last-minute commuter service for commuters from the Tokyo metropolitan area and a stepping stone for travelers heading to the Kansai region. Because it shared operation with the Tokaido Express, its two-car Green Car, a local train, proved popular. It continued to operate even after the privatization of the Japanese National Railways, operating with the 165 series until March 1996. This service later became the "Moonlight Nagara" rapid service and operated with JR Central's 373 series, but in 2009 it became a special service. The rolling stock was replaced with JR East's 183, 189, and 185 series, and the service officially ended in 2021.
This model is a 165 series train that served as the "Ogaki Night Express." The model recreates the various roof configurations of the KuHa 165, which featured front reinforcement and shield beam modifications, the SaRo 165, which featured unit windows, and former air-conditioning preparation cars and new air-conditioning cars, allowing for a diverse lineup. In addition to the "Tokai" express service, the four-car train served as the "Ina" express service, and the eight-car train, consisting of two trains coupled together, served as the "Hiei" express service in its later years, as well as for local transport in the Nagoya area. This product complements the various rolling stock models found throughout the area, allowing you to recreate the Tokaido Main Line of yesteryear.
