The E26 Series was introduced in 1999 for the luxury sleeper train 'Cassiopeia'. After regular Ueno to Sapporo services ended in 2016, the stock continued in charter and cruise-train use within the JR East area as 'Cassiopeia Cruise'.

This 6-car basic set is the core of KATO's 'Cassiopeia Cruise' formation and can be combined with the matching add-on set and suitable locomotives.
