The 883 series was introduced in 1995 with the aim of speeding up service and improving service on the Nippo Main Line. It was JR Kyushu's first pendulum-type train and Japan's first commercial AC pendulum-type train. Its distinctive design varies depending on the year of manufacture. Since 2005, it has undergone renovations, resulting in the current metallic blue exterior. To commemorate its 30th anniversary in 2025, the first train (AO-1) will be given a commemorative wrapping, and will be in operation for a limited time only until the end of the year.
Among the 883 series trains currently in service as the "Sonic" limited express, this first batch features three illuminated fog lights, a departure from previous models, and will be released as an affordable set. You can enjoy it together with a wide range of rolling stock products that are in use in the Kyushu region, such as the popular 10-2090 787 series "36 Plus 3", 10-1540 787 series <Around the Kyushu>, and 10-1952 885 series (2nd batch) <Around the Kyushu>.
