DETAILS
Series 489 Hakusan Color came into existence in 1988 when JR West Japan renewed the limited express "Hakusan"connecting Hokuriku province and the Tokyo metropolitan area by changing the body color scheme into rose, dark navy blue and light cobalt blue on the base of oyster white. Car No. 6, MOHA 489, was then converted, a half into a lounge and a half into convenience car, with windows position slightly changed.
Even after limited express "Hakusan"was discontinued in 1997 when Nagano shinkansen was opened, the train of the color scheme was continuously in service as limited expresses on Hokuriku mainline or as limited express "Noto"for 14 years until it was painted back to JNR limited express colour in 2002.
