DD51 is a diesel locomotive for the main line representing JNR, with 649 cars manufactured from 1962 (Showa 37). For snowy areas including Hokkaido, the A cold region specification featuring a swivel window was deployed.
Among the vehicles in the Hokkaido area that were inherited by JR Freight, the vehicles that only updated the aging parts were called A renewal color with a cream front on a blue body, and appeared after 2004 (Heisei 16). JR Freight-affiliated machines in the Hokkaido area gathered in the Washibetsu Engine Depot in their later years, and in 2014, they were handed over to the successor DF200, and all cars were retired.
