Description
This 8-car set represents the Sasebo portion of the JNR Series 20 sleeper express 'Sakura'. The 'Sakura' was converted to Series 20 stock in 1964 and became one of the classic blue-train names of the JNR era.
From the mid-1960s into the early 1970s, 'Sakura' services were divided and combined at Hizen-Yamaguchi, now Kohoku, with separate portions for Nagasaki and Sasebo. The Sasebo formation included a Maya 20 power/baggage car, giving it a distinctive look within the Series 20 family.
