This Kato 20-050 Unitrack ground level straight Expansion track section is 78 - 108mm, ( 3 - 4 1/4 inches) in length. The expansion track is a track section to help when model railway track layouts are susceptible to temperature changes, or there is an awkward section of layout where you need that little extra length.

The Expansion track is ideal if you have a portable layout with a number of base boards, no need to cut the track where the boards join, just leave space for the expansion track to slot in. It also makes wiring a lot easier.
