Description

The 211 series, a representative of the suburban stainless steel trains that appeared from the end of the JNR to the early days of JR, is a DC suburban train that appeared to replace the obsolete 111/113 series and to increase transportation capacity. It was an innovative train that radically reconsidered the accommodation of the suburban trains up to that time, and the stainless steel body combined with the FRP front head gave it a sophisticated appearance, and the adoption of comfortable bucket seats and other features made it serviceable. It is a vehicle that symbolizes the time when Japanese National Railways transitions to JR, which has also improved. It was operated in a 10-car or 15-car formation with a 10-car basic formation and a 5-car accessory formation incorporating two green cars.
