Description
This set recreates the Seibu Railway cement trains associated with the Seibu Chichibu Line. When the line opened in 1969, Seibu introduced the E851, a powerful six-axle F-class electric locomotive, to handle heavy cement traffic from the Chichibu region alongside passenger services.
The prototype trains used Mitsubishi Mining and Cement Taki 1900 tank wagons and Teki 401 bogie covered wagons. On the steep 25 per mille gradients between Higashiyokoze and Ashigakubo, the E851 was needed to haul 1,000 tonne-class cement trains, giving the private railway a particularly full-scale freight operation.
