Description
The ACS-64, also known as the "Amtrak Cities Sprinter", is Amtrak's replacement of the aging AEM-7 and HHP-8 electric locomotives for operation in the Northeast and Keystone Corridors. Built by Siemens and based on the EuroSprinter European electric locomotive design, the Cities Sprinter is nonetheless a unique model to North America and is built entirely in the United States. The Prototype, entering service as of February 2014, is meant to pull as many as 18 Amfleet cars at speeds of up to 125 miles per hour!
The ACS-64 is a brand new electric locomotive from Kato, and is Amtrak's newest addition to its locomotive fleet for use in the electrified lines in the northeast. The N Scale ACS-64 features movable pantographs which lock into elevated and down positions, directional headlights, a brand new mechanism wrapped around Kato's legendary flywheel motor, and is geared so that it will match the speed of the GE P42 if modelers wish to run them together.
This set comes packaged in Kato's bookcase style packaging and includes the ACS-64 locomotive and four Amfleet I Cars, tooled specially for this release.
