The 165 series was powered up in order to use the 153 series that appeared earlier in Joshinetsu / Chuetsu Line etc, and measures against cold tolerance are also included. It was also used for Tokaido Express of the Tokaido Main Line as well as the Express of the Central Line <Alps> and others.
Various organization from long formation for express to short formation for local can be reproduced.

H rubber such as door window and door closet window is gray, window sash is expressed in silver color.
Pantograph is equipped with PS16B type.
