Description
The ED75 was introduced in 1963 as JNR's standard AC electric locomotive. Despite its D-type wheel arrangement, it was a versatile passenger and freight locomotive with strong tractive effort for its size.
The 700 series was built from 1971 for the electrification of the Ou Main Line between Akita and Aomori. Because these locomotives worked along the Japan Sea coast, they were designed with protection against salt damage, cold and snow, including high-voltage equipment placed inside the body and a clean roof layout with cross-arm pantographs to reduce snow build-up.
This JR-specification early 700-series model is especially useful for Tohoku passenger scenes after the transition to JR. It includes Akebono and Elm headmarks and can also be paired with Orient Express '88 stock.
