Description
The EF65 Series 0 was developed as a DC freight locomotive for flat tracks, improving on the EF60, which lacked mid- to high-speed acceleration, and promoting standardization. As the number of units increased, it contributed to the electrification of freight trains on various lines, and a total of 135 units were manufactured by 1970.
Even after the transition to JR, it continued to be used primarily for freight trains, but the units inherited by JR Central also served as tows for 14-series passenger cars and Joyful Trains. In particular, No. 111 was used to tow the Orient Express '88, demonstrating its usefulness beyond its original role as a freight locomotive. This locomotive was widely used nationwide, and can be enjoyed in combination with various freight cars and 14-series passenger cars from the same period.
