Steam Locomotive C62 appeared as a large locomotive to pull passenger trains on main lines in 1948, designed by combining the boiler of D52 on Hudson type axle arrangement 2-C-2 (meaning 2 leading wheel + 3 driving wheel + 2 trailing wheel axles) After appearance of limited expresses "Tsubame (swallow) and "Hato" (pigeon), the locomotive was selected to draw the expresses with the head marks displayed and the run board painted white on the edges.
Among these, there are also vehicles with special paint, and Unit 2 is characterized by the "Tsubame mark" on the deflector (smoke removal plate) and the stainless steel border around the deflector. It was nicknamed "Swallow Angel".
