Description
The variety of car types used in freight train formations thrilled fans of the JNR era. This six-car set allows you to easily recreate those nostalgic freight trains.
During the JNR era, freight transport was carried out using the car-loading method, where each freight car was sent to a different destination. This resulted in a variety of freight cars with different uses and appearances operating as a single freight train. This six-car set includes a covered car, an open car, a hopper car, a refrigerated car, a container freight car, and a caboose. Enjoy playing with nostalgic freight trains.
Enjoy with a wide range of locomotives, including steam locomotives such as the D51, C11, C12, and C56; electric locomotives such as the EF15, EF650, ED71, EF80, and EF81 standard colors; and diesel locomotives such as the DE10, DD51 vermilion colors, DD54, and DF50.
Main Features
All cars are equipped with Arnold couplers, allowing them to be connected to various individual freight cars sold separately.
The Yo 5000 has lighting taillights and comes with a dummy coupler.

The idea here is that this 'mixed goods train' gives you a selection of wagons that wouldn't look out of place behind almost any JNR freight locomotive, whether steam, diesel, or electric. Whether that's strictly true is debatable, as the wagons here are quite varied, including old fashioned box vans through to a relatively modern KOKI container flat. But as a starter pack there's a lot to like.
The wagons are all nicely made, smooth running, and look good together. The set comprises a black open wagon (with a removable tarpaulin), a brown bogie van, a white insulated van, a beige cement tank, a container flat with five containers (moulded together as a single piece), and a lovely little brake van complete with working lights. The brake van can be further enhanced with internal lighting using the standard Kato coach lighting kit.
For the price, it's hard to find fault here. As with most Kato wagons, the detail is mostly moulded rather than separately fitted. Liveries are simple but done nicely, and the container wagon and cement wagon are especially attractive models.
