Description

The Wafu 29500 is a JNR covered brake van, with 650 vehicles built between 1955 and 1961. It combined a covered goods compartment with a guard's compartment, making it suitable for a wide range of freight train formations.

The prototype was designed with a 5 tonne goods compartment and a guard's area including a stove, bench and end deck. Vehicles of this type could be seen on main-line freight trains behind locomotives such as the D51, as well as on shorter local freight workings.
