The ED75 was introduced in 1963 as the JNR's standard AC electric locomotive. Despite being a D-type, it is a dual-purpose freight/passenger locomotive with tractive force comparable to that of an F-type DC electric locomotive. 91 700-series locomotives were manufactured from 1971 to coincide with the electrification of the Ou Main Line between Akita and Aomori. Running along the Japan Sea coastline, the ED75 boasts a clean rooftop design, including the inclusion of high-voltage equipment inside the car for resistance to salt damage, cold, and snow, and a cross-type pantograph with a low frame for reduced snow accumulation. Toward the end of the JNR era, some of the cars were specially painted for use on the "Orient Saloon" Joyful Train, leading the way for other Joyful Trains, Blue Trains such as the "Akebono," and the "Orient Express '88.
This locomotive was an essential part of passenger trains in the Tohoku region after the transition to JR. The set includes "Orient Saloon" and "Akebono" headmarks, allowing you to enjoy driving scenes of each train. It is also recommended for pulling the "Orient Express '88," which will be released at the same time.
